Dry Needling
Dry needling is a technique that is effective and efficient in the treatment of muscular pain and myofascial dysfunction. Dry needling was developed by Dr. Chan Gunn and is extremely effective for relaxing overactive muscles containing trigger points.
The treatment involves needling of a muscle's trigger points, a sensitive area within a taut band of a skeletal muscle that is painful on compression or muscle contraction. The approach is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles. Dry needling should not to be confused with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique of acupuncture. However, the same needles are used in both. Dry needling is based purely on treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and is not used for treating other conditions as TCM is.
